Bikes we’ve checked
22 e-bikes, judged against every state’s rules
Specs and prices checked
14 of the 22 are legal in all eight states and territories with no end date. 6 more pass in some states but not others, almost always because the seller doesn’t name EN 15194. 2 pass nowhere as their sellers describe them.

The throttle that fails everywhere
Leon’s manual for the NCM Paris+ lists a throttle to 25 km/h. Every state limits a 250 W bike to 6 km/h without pedalling, so as described it passes nowhere. (NCM Paris+ owner's manual (Leon Cycle), checked )
The mode that fails three states
The Smartmotion Renegade’s display has an Off Road riding mode. NSW, Victoria and Queensland say a way around the limits makes a bike illegal; elsewhere it’s a check. (Ride Electric, checked )
The headline that isn’t the rating
Aventon listings lead with ‘500W’, but the spec tab says 250 W rated. The law reads the rating, so the Level.3 and Pace.4 pass everywhere. (BikesOnline, checked )
