Rideable in all eight with nothing set to change it: 250 W rated, 25 km/h, EN 15194, no throttle. Like every Aventon BikesOnline sells, it isn't shipped to NSW until Fair Trading registers it.

Why it gets these verdicts

The Pace.4 shares the Level.3's motor and its page shares the same muddle: a '500W' key-spec strip above a spec tab that says 36 V, 250 W rated, 682 W peak. We go with the spec tab, the EN 15194 statement and BikesOnline's note that Aventons are supplied without a throttle. On those, it's legal everywhere.

If you buy a second-hand Aventon, check it's an Australian-supplied bike without a throttle; the checker's answer depends on it.

Who it suits

At $2,199 it ties Leon's Milano Plus as the cheapest legal-everywhere bike we list with a battery over 700 Wh, and its low step-through suits riders who don't want to swing a leg over. It's a cruiser: upright, comfortable, not quick.

Unlike the Level.3, it comes in two sizes, covering riders from 150 to 185 cm.
