Fine to ride anywhere in Australia: Reid states the Quest 2 is fully EN 15194 compliant, with a 250 W mid-drive and no throttle. It isn't shipped to NSW until Fair Trading registers it.

Why it gets these verdicts

Reid doesn't print a cut-off speed in kilometres an hour, but it does say 'fully EN15194 compliant', and the standard stops assistance at 25 km/h. With a 250 W motor and no throttle, that passes every state's 250 W class.

Like Aventon at BikesOnline, Reid is waiting on NSW Fair Trading registration before it will sell the bike to NSW customers. That's about sale, not use.

Who it suits

70 Nm through a mid-drive is the most torque you'll find on a commuter at this price, which makes the Quest 2 the hill pick under $2,500. Three sizes cover riders from 157 to 188 cm.

The battery is small at 417 Wh; Reid's own figure is up to 60 km, so it suits commutes under about 15 km each way.
